What Happens When You Put Baltimore Creatives Around a Table?

We've been thinking a lot lately about what makes Baltimore such a good city for events.

It's not the easiest city to explain.

It's not trying particularly hard to be flashy. It has a little grit. A lot of history. A weirdly high number of incredibly talented people.

And if you've spent any amount of time working in the Baltimore event community, you've probably noticed the same thing we have:

There is a ridiculous amount of talent in this city.

Florists. Planners. Photographers. Chefs. Designers. Artists. Venue owners. Stationers. Musicians. People making beautiful things in studios you've probably walked past a hundred times without realizing what was happening inside.

We've had the good fortune of working with a lot of them.

And lately, we started wondering what would happen if we got some of these people around a table when nobody was working.

Not networking.

Not passing business cards around.

Not talking about the next wedding.

Just coffee, conversation, and a chance to actually get to know the people making Baltimore's creative community what it is.

So we started The Bmore Table.

The idea is pretty simple: bring a small group of local creatives together over coffee and see what happens.

Because here's what we've learned after years of working events in Baltimore:

The best things usually happen in the conversation before the event.

Someone mentions a photographer they've been dying to work with. Someone else knows a great new restaurant. Someone has an idea for a collaboration. Someone is trying something completely new and needs another person to tell them they're not crazy.

And suddenly, you've got something.

Baltimore Has No Shortage of Natural Talent

This might be our favorite thing about the city.

Put a room full of Baltimore creatives together and you don't have to manufacture the energy.

It's already there.

We see it in our weddings. In the photographers who make us look better than we have any right to. In the planners who find the perfect venue. In the chefs and caterers who make a dinner feel like an occasion. In the artists and makers who keep finding new ways to make this city more interesting.

We've seen it in our floral design classes, too.

There is so much natural talent here.

Sometimes people need a little permission to use it.

We're Very Into Gathering People

Maybe that's part of why we like events so much in the first place.

At their best, events are really about bringing people together.

The flowers are important. The room is important. The food is important.

But ultimately, it's the people.

That's true whether we're designing a wedding at a historic Baltimore venue, creating an installation for a corporate event, teaching a room full of people how to work with flowers, or sitting around a coffee shop table with a handful of people we've never met before.

Something happens when people are given a reason to gather.

We're interested in that.

And we're especially interested in what happens when the people gathering happen to be some of the most creative people in Baltimore.
